Magic Triumphs – Ilona Andrews

Highly readable, like everything these authors write. If you’ve enjoyed the first nine books, you don’t need a review to help you decide to read the last book in the series.

Compared to earlier books in the series, it is solid but lacking in momentum. This is largely “last book syndrome”: The authors have one book left in which to resolve the major threats facing Kate and allies and friends and frenemies, so there isn’t much narrative leeway. What leeway there is focuses mostly on characters - who will live or die, who will get together or split apart, who will be friends or enemies, who will live happily ever after - in ways that decorate the main narrative, but don’t affect it much.
