Clover City – Jay Boyce

This series continues to delight. Jay Boyce has a knack for taking the normally-boilerplate aspects of LitRPG and making them fun. (For example, most of the first eight chapters is spent fighting crows. The protagonist’s mix of brilliance and slapstick makes it work.)

In the first book, “Lotus Lake”, the protagonist is mostly following a script: She has privileged information, she uses it to plan, she follows the plan. In “Clover City”, any plans she may have had are off the rails. The combination of overpowered skills, overpowered items, and foreknowledge take her down new pathways.

I had fun reading this book. Now to reread it.
