Mikoto and the Reaver Village – Forthright

I read (and reread) the first Amaranthine novels with enjoyment, so I was happy to see this novella, but it didn’t work for me. It might work for other readers, who would like to see backstory and don’t mind that it hasn’t much plot.

It didn’t work as a story; there was little plot and almost no plot tension. The protagonist leaves his clan and follows a star until he reaches the place he’s destined to reach. He meets others, who have also followed a star. And by the end of the novella we know the origins of several of elements that appear in the novels.
