Dark Queen – Faith Hunter

An enjoyable yarn. Typical of the author: The protagonist has special powers. Her allies have special powers. Her enemies show up with a bag of technological tricks - and she has a bigger bag of tricks.

I infer that this is a trial balloon for a new series. If it is, I’ll read the next book, but I’m not optimistic. The characters are shallow at this point, and it’ll take work to dig them out of that while telling a good story.

The cats themselves are the best part of the book.
