The Innocent Sleep – Seanan McGuire

This was one of the weaker books in what continues to be a strong series. The previous novel - “Sleep No More” - tells Toby’s story in which her world is rewritten by Titania, and becomes one in which Changelings are servants with few rights, and she is happy in that role.

“The Innocent Sleep” retells the same story from Tybalt’s perspective. It’s a risky thing to do, and in this case it didn’t quite pay off. There isn’t a second novel’s worth of story left to tell. Tybalt isn’t as interesting a character as Toby, and cannot carry the novel. (There are pieces of story here that would have added to the first novel. I wonder whether the two books were originally one novel.)
