Nightfall's Prophet – T.A. White

I’ve enjoyed every book White has published, and of her series, the Aileen Travers series is the one I’ve most enjoyed.

“Nightfall’s Prophet” cannot be used as an entry point. It depends heavily upon earlier books. If you have been following Aileen’s story, this book brings a certain stabilization. It ends with Aileen more settled (kicking and screaming) into the larger vampire culture, and with some resolution to her personal and familial relationships.

The author does leave dangling plot lines for potential future books. We still don’t know why she has pixies in her life. We still don’t know what happened to the sorcerer - but it looks likely that we will find out.

This book leans towards the slapstick. There is relatively less “Aileen Travers overcomes challenges” and more “Aileen Travers can’t catch break”. And there is relatively less “Aileen grows more capable” and more “Aileen attacks today’s problem with the same tools she brought to yesterday’s problem”. I look forward to another book in this series - and hope it will be more ambitious.
